Essential Driving Rules in Turkey:

Understanding the basic driving rules is crucial to avoid fines in Turkey. The speed limits are enforced at 50kph in built-up areas, 90kph on open roads, and 120kph on motorways. Fines for exceeding these limits depend on the level of violation.

Seat Belt Laws:

Wearing seat belts is mandatory, and all car seats must have seat belts to accommodate all passengers. An exemption medical certificate, accompanied by a Turkish translation, is required if a seat belt cannot be worn due to medical reasons. Emergency items like a fire extinguisher, two warning triangles, and a first-aid kit must be kept in the car.

Child Passenger Rules:

Strict rules apply for child passengers, with appropriate child restraints required for those between 3 and 11 years old and measuring less than 1.35 meters. Infants up to 9 kg or 12 months old must be placed in a safety seat at the back, facing the rear windows.

Right of Way:

Is an International Driving Permit necessary for Turkey?

Drivers on the right-hand side of Turkish roads have the right of way, and pedestrians always have priority when crossing. Road users entering roundabouts also have the right of way, and pedestrians and cyclists are given priority at crossings.
